McClarin Plastics is continually looking for ways to improve the internal processes which support their contract manufacturing capabilities and ultimately provide added value to their customers. One such way is by their adoption of Six Sigma practices.
Six Sigma is a set of practices originally developed by Motorola to systematically improve processes by eliminating defects. Six Sigma refers to "the ability of highly capable processes to produce output within specification." In particular, processes that operate within six sigma quality produce at defect levels below 3.4 defects per one million opportunities. The Six Sigma goal is to improve all processes to that level of quality or better.
Through the Penn College of Technology Workforce Development Board, McClarin Plastic's Todd P.Kennedy, RED Plant Manager, and Scott Crandall, Director of Quality and Advanced Technologies, have earned the Six Sigma Black Belt title. They trained with nationally-known Jim Anthon, a Master Black Belt who was trained at General Electric. Kennedy and Crandall apply Six Sigma methodology to specific projects within McClarin Plastics. Currently, McClarin has three Six Sigma projects underway.
